They find that this way of working really does help them to develop their confidence and embed the vocabulary into their longer-term memory. There are lots of games and activities to play, and I’ve described several that are successful with my groups. They love to quiz and test themselves and each other on a regular basis - it’s a very popular alternative to more traditional vocabulary drilling tasks and tests. The vocabulary groups are as follows: saludos : días de la semana : meses y las estaciones del año : números 0-20 : mi familia : palabras frecuentes : frases útiles para la clase : preguntas y respuestas The Reference, Recall & Write book has 18 pages. It includes an alphabetical Spanish-English reference list of all 99 words & phrases. My students use their recall workbooks quite a few times, simply covering previous answers. This means that prep and paper are kept to a minimum. There are three written recall challenges: = Written Recall Challenge One students write the English word or phrase from a Spanish prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category = Written Recall Challenge Two with this challenge, students write the words or phrases in Spanish from an English prompt, and again, they’re all group together in the same category = Written Recall Challenge Three the final challenge ‘switches’ at each question from Spanish to English, and lists words and phrases randomly from each category. This challenges the memory more than when the vocabulary is in the order learners first learn it in, with the additional challenge of moving between the two languages = Ideas, Notes and Next Steps encourages students to reflect on their progress = Card template for creative and practical application of language Laminate the game cards if you can - they are far more learner-friendly, and the additional prep and expense is definitely worth it, as the cards will last in excellent conditional for years. SPANISH CHRISTMAS PRIMARY SPANISH CHRISTMAS KS3 SPANISH CHRISTMAS CHALLENGE CARDS NUMBERS 0-31 This resource consists of non-editable files in a zipped format. It is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. School licenses are available. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. These Spanish Christmas Numbers 0-31 challenge cards are perfect for Primary Spanish and KS3 Spanish learners, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. I’ve found that lessons around the Christmas period are a great time for revisiting and practising language and structures we’ve looked at over the term. The questions are entirely in Spanish, and students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their developing knowledge of Spanish in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in Spanish in general, and certainly in Spanish numbers and Spanish Christmas vocabulary in particular. The questions range in complexity and challenge, not only in terms of calculation, but also in terms of the level of Spanish - they are aimed at advanced beginner Spanish learners, rather than new or recent beginners. Most learners will be able to infer meaning from context and images, which have a real Spanish Christmas theme, such as el turrón and las uvas, with vocabulary and structures repeated throughout, giving learners a chance to familiarize themselves really well with them. Nonetheless, it can be useful to read through the questions with the whole class first to check everyone is able to access the language, and therefore the activity, successfully. Students really do benefit in terms of language learning if they have regular and frequent opportunities to work with the cards, rather than simply working with them in a single lesson. The Spanish Christmas vocabulary provides a really useful springboard for discussion about Christmas customs and traditions in Spain, Spanish regions, and other Spanish-speaking countries too, comparing and contrasting these to other Christmas practices students may know. The resource comprises the following non-editable files: = 48 differentiated question cards = answer key & recording sheet = question card template Have a browse in my store for more Spanish resources, including special offer bundles and freebies. ¡MUCHAS GRACIAS Y FELIZ NAVIDAD!

The set features 25 high-frequency German reflexive verbs in the present tense. Some questions focus specifically on dative reflexive pronouns, as students may find these more challenging at first. There are 6 worksheets, with three differentiated conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations, in two design formats: = Workbook Format: 10-page workbook, with cover page, verbs lists, six worksheets and Notes, Next Steps and New Verbs page, where students note any points they’d like to work more on, map their progress and list any new regular German verbs they learn, which helps them develop a really useful German verb bank. = Worksheet Format: worksheets can be printed out individually, or as a pack without the cover page, verbs lists and progress template, useful for quick revision, refresher, starters / finishers, and also generally saves on prep costs = answer key The worksheets also address a broad range of vocabulary and grammar points, such as direct / indirect object pronouns, negative sentences and various question formats. Some sentences include modal verbs and subordinating conjunctions, to ensure that students can practise locating the reflexive pronoun and verb or infinitive accurately. Students may not have engaged with all the language used at this stage, and this makes the activity equally about engaging with new language, as well as practising and reinforcing the current language focus. There are three differentiated conjugation challenges: = Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in sentence format across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding translation. Translating accurately is an important skill for language learners to engage with and master, and this kind of focused practice is really useful for them. = Challenge 2: straightforward conjugation drill: each question gives a German infinitive and a target pronoun. Students write the corresponding German verb conjugation. = Challenge 3: mirrors Challenge 1, with an increased challenge. Students write the German translation from an English sentence, to ensure that they are able to produce as well as recognize both the correct conjugation and an accurate translation. School licenses are available. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. There are 33 German Christmas words, including a selection of more generic Christmas words, and also some which are very German-specific, such as Sankt Nikolaus and Knecht Ruprecht. Students shouldn’t attempt to learn all the vocabulary at once, as the objective of the word searches is to engage with German Christmas vocabulary, to really focus on the individual words, genders and articles, and to have lots of practice at general recall, writing and spelling. The German Christmas vocabulary list is ideal as a long-term reference resource, and really useful for students when they are working more creatively and independently, for example***German Christmas reading comprehension, German Christmas writing activities*** and so on. There is an increasing challenge through the grids, and the differentiation does ensure that all students are challenged. There are 5 German to German grids, with a vocabulary list to complete for additional consolidation. There are also 5 English to German grids, also with a vocabulary list to complete, which is a great way to really work on students’ recall and spelling. Students can identify the level of challenge by the increasing size of the grid, number of words to search for, and the direction the words appear in, which they can see by the direction of the arrows at the top of the grids. I’ve put a couple of extra challenges in too, to encourage students to look really carefully at the words - for example, they may have to find candles and work out what that is in German - only the prompt die Adventskerze appears in the reference list. Answer keys are a great teacher-time saver and also give students an additional opportunity to engage with language, helping them develop more independence in their learning. Laminate the answer keys, and distribute amongst small groups of students during classtime - they will remain in excellent condition for years. School licenses are available. Please read the Terms of Use. This set features ten differentiated word searches, with corresponding answer keys, focusing on a wide range of German Christmas vocabulary, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. The searches offer a really useful learning opportunity - enabling learners to engage with German Christmas vocabulary, which is a great springboard for discussion on Christmas traditions and practices in Germany and other German-speaking countries, comparing them to other traditions and practices students know, but also working on reading, writing, spelling and German language skills in general. Learners are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. There are also five grid templates for learners to create their own searches for each other — this is a really popular activity, and students often like to create grids for each other and family at home too. The templates enable learners to apply their language practically and creatively, which is really important at this stage of German language development. There is a single word search per page, portrait format, which ensures that text is accessible and manageable. Some of the more challenging grids do look a little cramped, as a good number of the German words are quite long. There are 50 German Christmas words across the word searches - it’s not necessary for students to learn all the words explicitly - over time, they tend to become familiar with all of them anyway. Looking for unfamiliar words in the grids really works well for implicit learning. There’s a full alphabetical vocab list, which is a great long-term German Christmas vocabulary reference resource, which my students like to add to when they can. There are 6 worksheets, with three differentiated conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations, in two formats: = Workbook Format: 10-page workbook, with cover page, verbs lists, six worksheets and Notes, Next Steps and New Verbs page, where students note any points they’d like to work more on, map their progress and list any new German separable verbs they learn. = Worksheet Format: worksheets can be printed out individually, or as a pack without the cover page, verbs lists and progress template, useful for quick revision, refresher, starters / finishers, and also generally saves on prep costs The answer key is a separate file with six pages, and I generally print this out as a pack for classwork, with groups of students sharing an individual pack. The worksheets also address a broad range of vocabulary and grammar points, such as direct / indirect object pronouns, negative sentences and varied question formats. Some sentences include modal verbs and subordinating conjunctions, to ensure that students can practise locating the prefix accurately in various grammatical contexts. There are three differentiated conjugation challenges: = Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in sentence format across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English translation. Students can engage with the differences in usage between English and German: for example: Du bist gestern abgefahren can only be translated as You set off yesterday because of the specific expression of time; Er hat nicht aufgehört as a standalone sentence can either be He has not stopped or He did not stop and I introduce this concept to students immediately, as it helps them avoid future errors. = Conjugation Challenge 2: each question gives a German infinitive and a target pronoun. Students write the corresponding German verb conjugation. = Conjugation Challenge 3: Students write the German translation from an English sentence, to ensure that they are able to produce as well as recognize the correct conjugation, accurate location of the prefix, and a meaningful translation. Please read the Terms of Use.< The questions have a multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words in French. The translation questions are a great way of introducing beginner French learners to the concept of translation too. All questions are in French, and range in complexity and challenge, both in terms of language and number skills. There are visual prompts such as maths symbols to ensure all learners can engage with the questions, and this helps them to begin to infer meaning from context, and to decode cues and prompts to foster understanding. Some questions focus specifically on French maths language, which students do not always engage with very often. The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language and arithmetic creatively and practically too - my students really enjoy creating questions for each other. This set comprises the following non-editable files: = 48 differentiated question cards, 6 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Laminate if possible - they're far more learner-friendly and remain in excellent condition for years. = answer key & recording sheet Have a browse in my store for more French resources, including special offer bundles and freebies. PRIMARY FRENCH KS3 FRENCH KS4 FRENCH GCSE FRENCH CHALLENGE CARDS 13 sets of challenge cards @ £3.00 each in the bundle. All files are non-editable in zipped formats. The license for purchase is a single-use license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. Challenge cards are an ideal language learning activity, providing multi-skill language learning opportunities. These sets are ideal for a range of French language classrooms from KS2 French / Primary French to KS3 French, and at KS4 French, students preparing for GCSE French as practice and revision. This kind of activity really does help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their French language skills in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The questions have a multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarise themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in French in general, and on the focus language, for example, conjugating French RE verbs in the present tense in particular. I use task not only when we’re focusing on the focus language and grammar, but also for sub lessons, as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity. The goal is not simply to learn how French works, and how patterns can be identified and applied, it’s also about enjoying working with French, and to feel confident about doing so. The questions are differentiated, and range in complexity and challenge, with some calling specifically upon prior and new knowledge too, helping students make links and build bridges in their learning. There may be some vocabulary that students are not familiar with - these questions give them the opportunity to learn and apply new language too. Other grammatical concepts are addressed in the questions too, such as gender agreement, direct and indirect objects, personal pronouns and question formats in French. The question card template available in some sets enables students to apply their knowledge practically and creatively, which is an essential element to successful language learning. To get the most from the questions, I frequently look at the multiple-choice questions as a whole-group, identifying not only why there is a single correct response, but what the errors are in the other choices. Identifying errors, and explaining precisely why something is inaccurate or incorrect, helps students to think about language a little more laterally, and ensures that they are thinking concepts through, rather than simply relying on learned responses. All sets have full answer keys and recording sheets. 1: FRENCH NUMBERS 0-21 : 36 DIFFERENTIATED CHALLENGE CARDS https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-numbers-0-21-challenge-cards-11843713 2: FRENCH NUMBERS 0-31 : 48 DIFFERENTIATED CHALLENGE CARDS https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-numbers-0-31-challenge-cards-11759386 3: FRENCH CHRISTMAS NUMBERS 0-31 : 36 DIFFERENTIATED CHALLENGE CARDS https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-christmas-numbers-0-31-challenge-cards-12035663 4: FRENCH NUMBERS 0-100 : 48 DIFFERENTIATED CHALLENGE CARDS https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-numbers-0-100-challenge-cards-11741540 5: FRENCH DATES, DAYS, MONTHS, SEASONS : 36 DIFFERENTIATED CHALLENGE CARDS https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-dates-days-months-seasons-challenge-cards-11856578 6: FRENCH FRUITS : 36 DIFFERENTIATED CHALLENGE CARDS https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-fruits-challenge-cards-12586825 7: FRENCH VEGETABLES : 36 DIFFERENTIATED CHALLENGE CARDS https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-vegetables-challenge-cards-12587115 8: FRENCH FRUITS & VEGETABLES : 36 DIFFERENTIATED CHALLENGE CARDS https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-fruits-and-vegetables-challenge-cards-12587126 9: FRENCH TELLING THE TIME O’CLOCK & HALF PAST THE HOUR : 60 CHALLENGE CARDS https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-telling-time-challenge-cards-1-12833553 10: FRENCH TELLING THE TIME QUARTER TO & QUARTER PAST THE HOUR : 60 CHALLENGE CARDS https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-telling-time-challenge-cards-2-12833561 11: FRENCH TELLING TIME RANGE OF ANALOGUE CLOCK TIMES : 60 CHALLENGE CARDS https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-telling-time-challenge-cards-3-12833565 12: FRENCH ER VERBS PRESENT TENSE : 48 DIFFERENTIATED CHALLENGE CARDS https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-er-verbs-present-tense-challenge-cards-12641881 13: FRENCH RE VERBS PRESENT TENSE : 48 DIFFERENTIATED CHALLENGE CARDS https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-re-verbs-present-tense-challenge-cards-12646092 Have a browse in my store for more French resources, including special offer bundles and freebies.
